The NFL Players Association is proud to announce the next set of player commitments to the 2017 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. Joining the National and American team rosters are South Dakota kicker Miles Bergner, Nevada punter Alex Boy, Louisiana Tech quarterback Ryan Higgins, St. Francis (Pa.) safety Lorenzo Jerome and Louisiana Tech defensive back Xavier Woods.

Highlights from the five committed players include:

  • The all-time leading scorer in school history with 276 points, Bergner connected on a program-best 56 field goals in his four seasons with the Coyotes. This season, he became the first player in Missouri Valley Football Conference history to be named both the first-team all-MVFC placekicker and punter after making 14 field goals and leading FCS in punting with a 47.5-yard average.
  • Boy also excelled at the kicker position. The senior finished 24th in the nation with a 43.7-yard punt average and ranks third in school history in career punting average.
  • Higgins was named Conference USA MVP by the league’s coaches after throwing for 4,208 yards and 37 touchdowns this fall. The gunslinger also ranked third among FBS players with an average of 351 yards per game.
  • As a playmaker in all three phases of the game, Jerome tallied 59 tackles, 2.5 sacks, six interceptions and two touchdowns off a fumble recovery and kickoff return for the Red Flash.
  • By snagging five interceptions, Woods ranked ninth in the nation. The senior also totaled 81 tackles, including 6.5 for loss, and three sacks for the Bulldogs.

In this year’s NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, Mike Martz will look to defend his 2016 National Team title against Jim Zorn’s American Team at StubHub Center on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills.  The Jan. 21 game will be broadcast by Fox Sports on FS1 with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. PST/4 p.m. EST.
